THE SPIRITUAL JOURNEY

It's time. It's timeless.

What is the Spiritual Awakening Process?

The spiritual journey most commonly begins when one has exhausted seeking external sources for their happiness or truth. The spiritual fire ignites and it is time go within and inquire for yourself - directly, one pointedly, persistently; to ask:

Who am I?
What is really true?
What is the true source of happiness?
How can I truly be free?

The process of awakening is characterized by a deepening self awareness and acceptance. It is not a path of accumulation, rather it is a process of shedding

…which is ultimately liberating and at times very uncomfortable.

Through this letting go, there is a an opening up to reveal the essence of Being. It is a discovery of your essential nature as full and complete, absolutely free, boundless love, and intelligent perfection unfolding.

Who is this for?

The revelatory process of spiritual growth is born of regular practice, trustworthy guidance, unwavering passion for truth, an openness to self inquire, a courage to face your fears and live in alignment with your highest truth.

If you are feeling the spiritual call, if you feel a connection to the wisdom of Yoga, and you feel ready to do the inner work, this course is dedicated to you. You will receive step by step guidance in traditional Yoga teachings and practices which are designed to naturally, safely, efficiently chaperone you towards greater freedom and happiness.

This course is not about accumulating information, facts and relative knowledge; rather, through spiritual practice we enter into a liberating process that sheds untruth and reveals the essential nature of Being.

The spiritual journey is the quintessential hero's journey. It is not easy and there will be challenges to face and obstacles to overcome. It is often uncomfortable because intrinsic to the process is healing old wounds, breaking unhealthy habits and facing our shadow. Resiliency, radical honesty, courage, passion, discernment, commitment, and enormous self compassion are all essential.

This course is not meant for a fair-weather approach, it is designed for highly sincere students who are ready to do the inner work and have come to a point where they must follow their soul's call above all else.

Pillars of the program

Regular practice, study of sacred texts, associating with the wise, and constant contemplation of truth—these are declared to be the foundations of true knowledge.
— Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 13, Verse 8-12

To help you form an experiential understanding of the content of this program, we will employ 4 yogic pillars, or experiential formats, as the basis for all learning and integration:

I

Sadhana: Spiritual practice

Students commit to ongoing regular practice which will be a combination of guided classes by Tanya as well as personal practice. The primary practices we will integrate are asana, pranayama, self inquiry, contemplation, meditation.

II

Satsang: Spiritual teachings

Receive teachings rooted in the tradition of yoga and veda whose singular purpose is fulfilment in human life. The teachings act as sacred keys that unlock and release the chains that bind and cause suffering. One by one, teaching by teaching, ever more freedom is known.

III

Sangha: Spiritual community

Stay connected to like minded, like-hearted, and like-spirited group of students. Together you will grow and keep each other accountable as well as mutually support each other through the highs and lows of this sacred process. Spiritual community is an essential component for success on this path.

IV

Swadyaya: Contemplation & Self Inquiry

While we do take time for formal study or concentrated practice, you will be self-reflecting, self-inquiring and applying your insights in real life situations. This takes it off the mat/cushion and integrates it into life, out of the head and integrates it into the body.

Detailed Curriculum

Integrated Content

Each of these components are complete programs in and of themselves. Rather than offer them as separate modules, however, we have chosen to integrate them throughout the program to holistically support you through your personal journey over the course of 1 year.

Hatha Yoga

A year-long practice evolving with you

The Hatha Yoga component is a step-by-step training program of deepening self awareness and self mastery. It begins with more physical aspects of alignment, and gradually moves inward integrating breath, mind, and spiritual dimensions of the Hatha Yoga practice.

The pace is natural and progressive so you will experience growth in your practice from beginning to end of the program.

On some days, the Hatha yoga component will be informed by Ayurvedic principles with the intention on rebalancing and healing, other times it will be informed by principles of transformation and awakening. This will empower you with the knowledge of the when, why and how to use yoga practices and techniques.

Fruits of Hatha Yoga:

  • Learn to work with the ancient principle of balance—Ha-Tha, sun and moon, yang and yin—so you can recognize your own imbalance the moment it arises, and consciously bring yourself back through movement, breath, and stillness.

  • Feel strong, open, and vital—a deep, embodied sense of well-being that carries you through your whole day, not just your practice.

  • Let your decisions and your behavior be anchored in clarity, purpose, vitality, and courage—so you move through life awake, not on autopilot.

  • Learn and apply the actual principles that bring forth genuine spiritual growth—not concepts about transformation, but the real mechanics of it, practiced in your own body.

  • Use movement, breath, and meditation to consciously elevate your state of consciousness—feeling more expanded, more vital, more clear, month after month.

  • Begin to transcend the limitations you once mistook for the edges of your body and mind.

  • Simplify, as the year deepens, into a practice whose only aim is a settled, sattvic clarity—the very ground from which real insight arises on its own.

  • Come to know your body not as an obstacle to your spiritual life, but as its fittest, most willing vehicle.

Ayurveda

An integrated thread of universal knowledge and self-care

Ayurveda is an ancient system for cultivating health that works with the whole being (physical, mental emotional, interrelational, and spiritual) to bring healing and empowerment—which is considered an important condition for spiritual growth.

For this reason, Ayurvedic wisdom, practices and support are integrated throughout the program to support whole-system health.

The Ayurveda component includes:

  • Yoga classes

  • Philosophy lectures to help you learn about the body-mind-lifestyle connection

  • 1 personal consultation with Dr. Joshi which will give you a customized healing program (diet, practices, natural herbs, and lifestyle choices)

Fruits of Ayurveda:

  • Discover your own unique constitution—not a generic template, but the actual blueprint of your body, mind, and energy.

  • Learn real diagnostic skills—how to read your own signs, symptoms, and shifts the way an Ayurvedic practitioner does.

  • Receive specific practices to bring your constitution back into balance—so imbalance becomes information, not a source of anxiety.

  • Learn the Ayurvedic teachings on diet, lifestyle, and sleep—the physical foundations of vitality—alongside the energetic and psychological dimensions of health that most modern wellness advice leaves out entirely.

  • Follow the Ayurvedic unfolding of the chakras—understanding your subtle body through a second, complementary lens to the one you're already walking through the rest of the training.

  • Learn the therapeutic use of mudra—simple, precise gestures with real physiological and energetic effect.

  • Build a working knowledge of household remedies—so healing becomes something in your own hands, not something you outsource.

  • Receive direct guidance from Dr. Joshi—a master teacher and practicing medical professional—so ancient wisdom and clinical rigor meet in the same room.

+

Modular Content

While you keep up your regular Hatha yoga practice, we move through a developmental sequence of modules, as described in the Vedas, each one building upon the next taking you deeper into your Self.

Module I

Yoga Dharma

Discover the ground everything else stands on

  • Discover the underlying principles upon which everything else in this training stands—so nothing that follows ever feels random, ungrounded, or disconnected from what came before.

  • Receive Presence as your first Core Tool—learning to actually arrive in this moment, again and again, because this moment is the only place the practice—or your life—ever actually happens.

  • Cultivate Acceptance—a real, felt non-resistance to what is, so that your energy stops leaking into fighting reality and becomes available for meeting it.

  • Develop Discernment—learning to tell the story you're carrying apart from what is objectively true, and learning to tell awareness itself apart from the ever-changing objects that pass through it—so you stop mistaking the weather for the sky.

  • Claim Conscious Response—recognizing that in every single moment, there is a choice in thought, word, and action, and that this choice is where your true creative power lives.

  • Explore the nature of mind and ego—not as enemies to defeat, but as instruments to understand—so you can finally work with your own mind instead of being run by it.

  • Through contemplation, learn to recognize and align with—rather than fight against—the universal laws that govern all of life, the very fabric of consciousness itself: the nature of the self, the roots of suffering, impermanence, interconnectivity, and oneness.

  • Use the microcosm to discover the macrocosm—tracing these same universal laws through the small and ordinary, your breath, your food, your money, your relationships—so the vastness of the teaching is never abstract, but something you can actually touch in your own daily life.

  • Learn to Transcend and Include—the principle that real growth never discards what came before it, only matures and folds it in—so your own past, your conditioning, even your mistakes, become material for your becoming rather than something to outrun.

  • Show Up—arrive, fully, here and now, to this moment, exactly as it is. Claim self-responsibility—yoga, the awakening process itself, begins the moment blame ends.

  • Clean Up—engage the purification practices and the honest letting go that clear the ground beneath you.

  • Grow Up—challenge yourself, shift your edge, and transcend the limitations you've outgrown but haven't yet released.

  • Wake Up—awaken to your own fundamental nature, already whole, already free, already home.

Module II

Karma Yoga

The prerequisite before all other practices

  • Meet Karma Yoga as the ground floor—in the Vedic map, this is the first stage of practice, the ground of being that informs and propels success in every stage that follows. Without it, no real growth can occur.

  • Cultivate Karma—appropriate, conscious action that brings harmony and elevates consciousness—so your actions come to serve the elevation of yourself, of others, and, in truth, the whole universe.

  • Cultivate Yoga—the appropriate attitude behind that action—an attitude of gratitude, equanimity, and humility, the fundamental practice underlying all practice.

  • Feel this phase of practice work fast—rapid psychological and emotional transformation that, in turn, sets off rapid, radical transpersonal transformation across your relationships, your life, and your spirit.

  • Enter into Panca Maha Yajna, the five sacred daily offerings, and connect deeply with the sacred symbiosis you have never actually been separate from.

  • Develop a conscious relationship with the Divine, with wisdom, with lineage, with your fellow humans, and with nature itself—so your heart can finally rest in safety, security, appreciation, and surrender.

  • Establish a daily ritual at your own, personally created altar—a simple return, again and again, to the recognition that you are connected to something greater than yourself, and let that return imbue your whole day with reverence, groundedness, and quiet devotion.

  • Meditate on and integrate the twenty Values outlined in the Bhagavad Gita—receiving them not as a list to memorize, but as twenty companions who walk beside you, chaperoning you through the awakening process itself.

  • Learn to recognize the intention underneath your own asana practice—pleasure, healing, transformation, or awakening—so you can get honest, today, about which one you're actually practicing from.

  • Receive the Gayatri Mantra—one of the oldest, most revered mantras in the Vedic tradition—so that gratitude, equanimity, and humility become a sound you carry with you, not just an idea you hold.

Module III

Upasana Yoga

Integrating the fruits of Karma Yoga into formal discipline

  • Integrate the fruits of Karma Yoga as you enter formal yoga sadhana—a yogic discipline that unfolds across four dimensions, each one refining the instrument you'll need for everything still to come.

  • Discipline the Physical—sleep, diet, and exercise brought into conscious rhythm—so your body becomes clear, light, and steady, a true foundation rather than a source of constant noise.

  • Discipline the Sensory—discovering and training your five senses, learning to harness and direct where your consciousness actually goes—so you're no longer pulled wherever the world points you, but choosing, moment to moment, where your attention lives.

  • Discipline the Verbal—learning vak tapas, the discipline of speech—recognizing speech as one of the most powerful and primary tools of creation, and beginning to wield it with the same care you'd give any sacred instrument.

  • Discipline the Mental—receiving the four meditations that cultivate genuine inner wealth, so your mind becomes an ally in your practice rather than its greatest obstacle.

  • Receive the Six-Fold Inner Wealth—shatsampatti: calmness of mind, sense-control, self-withdrawal, endurance, faith, and mental focus—six qualities that together turn deep study and real self-inquiry from an aspiration into something actually possible.

  • Meet the traditional teaching alongside the neuroscience of meditation—what these ancient practices are actually doing to your brain and nervous system—so your discipline is held by both ancient wisdom and modern evidence, each one deepening your trust in the other.

  • Learn about the fitness of studentship—the relationship of how the practices you've just done prepare the body-mind vehicle for receptivity to the direct teachings on spiritual realization still to come.

Module IV

Jnana Yoga

The Path of Self-Knowledge

  • Study two of the great texts of the Vedic tradition—Bhaja Govindam, Adi Shankaracharya's urgent, tender wake-up call, and Tattva Bodha, the foundational primer of Vedanta—as your direct doorway into Jnana Yoga, the path of Self-knowledge.

  • Meet the fleeting nature of youth, wealth, and the body—not as a grim reminder, but as a summons to stop postponing what matters most, and to turn toward the Divine now, not "someday."

  • Recognize the quiet trap of scholarship without embodiment—so knowledge stops being something you collect, and becomes something you actually live.

  • Receive the call to sincere devotion and the necessity of a genuine guru—understanding why this journey was never meant to be walked entirely alone.

  • Learn the essential architecture of your own experience—the three bodies and five koshas that make up everything you've ever called "myself."

  • Come to know the three ordinary states of consciousness—waking, dream, deep sleep—and the "fourth" beyond them, the silent witness that has been present through all three, all along.

  • Receive the ultimate teaching of Vedanta on the nature of the Self—existence, consciousness, fullness—not as a doctrine to believe, but as a direct pointer to what you can verify for yourself.

  • Use these teachings as a precise, elegant map for everything you've sensed and practiced all year—so what once felt like scattered insight now reveals itself as one coherent unfolding.

Module V

Embodied Awakening

Part I: Living the awakening process

  • Meet the central paradox at the heart of this whole path—you are already whole, already free—and, at the very same time, a human being with a real, ongoing edge still unfolding. Awakening, it turns out, is the easy part; the lifelong work of healing and growing is bottomless—and that's not a discouraging truth, it's a liberating one.

  • Discover suffering and ego not as enemies to defeat, but as doorways—suffering as a route to both freedom and deeper embodiment, ego as a force that becomes creative or destructive depending on how well you know it.

  • Walk the map of Head, Heart, and Hara—transcendent freedom found beyond the mind, freedom found through the full embrace of self and humanity, freedom found in surrender to something larger than you—and learn each stage's real gifts alongside its very real shadow, so you can recognize exactly where you stand, and what actually moves you forward.

  • Receive real, grounded understanding of kundalini awakening—what it is, how it moves, what commonly arises, and its own particular shadow—so that if this energy stirs in you, you meet it with steadiness and skillful response, not fear.

  • Learn to tell the difference between a spiritual emergency and a psychiatric crisis—a distinction that matters enormously, both for your own unfolding and for anyone you may one day hold space for.

Part II: Creating your Dharmic Offering

  • Begin preparing your final practicum—your Dharmic Offering—the living culmination of everything you've practiced, studied, and become across this entire year.

  • Build real teaching skill across each of the four pillars—sadhana, satsang, sangha, swadyaya—learning to meet a student exactly where they are, not where you assume them to be.

  • Learn to hold deeper space than a one-off asana class ever could—sequencing and guiding across weeks and sessions, so the people you teach experience real, meaningful transformation, not just a good hour on the mat.

  • Practice the rarer skill of deep listening—holding space for another person without fixing, advising, or opinion, offering only true presence.

  • Design and deliver your Dharmic Offering—nine to ten hours, woven entirely from your own sadhana, satsang, sangha, and swadyaya—not an academic assignment, but a gift, offered from a full cup, born of what has actually transformed in you this year.

What students have said…

The Yogi’s Way was so much more than I ever imagined. It has shown me a way in a manner that requires life-long dicipline, inquiry, humbleness and patience. Already now, it has proven its wisdom and guidance to me in difficult situations. I am very very grateful. The life-long friends I have made in the ”Way” are priceless and the strength and light of this community will last for decades to come. You were right in saying in one of your lectures that the right people joined this program. I truly feel that. It was meant to me this group of people at this time. Forever grateful for your wisdom and guidance Tanya. You are a wonderful teacher and a guide.
— Laura H.

I joined The Yogi’s Way after having completed the Awaken program and could not be more grateful for having found this particular “Way” and being guided by Tanya. After having practiced different types of yoga asana for 10 years and having completed a 200 hour training previously, this course took my practice, understanding and knowledge of the yoga system to a much deeper level. There is so much (mis-) information about what “yoga” is (or should look like) today and the course cleared up a lot for me while creating more space in my life internally as well as externally. It blends into life beautifully and only helps with the challenges of everyday life. The spiritual guidance by Tanya in combination with the Ayurvedic guidance by Dr. Joshi and the beautiful community, creates a safe space for gaining self knowledge, understanding and transformation.
— Annette R.

The Yogi’s Way shifts you from searching into being. If you are having this inner call, this inner search for a deeper sense of wisdom rooted in truth, then follow it and you will ultimately find nothing outside of you, but your fundamental truth in you as you, in everything as everything... If fear or doubt is rising up because of the investment of time, see it as an investment in you, which is timeless, unbound existence in this moment, as this moment... It is pretty rare to find a teacher, that can share so open heartedly the essence of who we fundamentally are.
— Carolin S.
